[edit]Inherited from Ottoman Turkish قرائت (ḳırāʾat, “a reading; a reading or reciting the Qur'an in a solemn or artistic manner, (pl. "قرآات") a special method of pronouncing each word of the Qur'an”),[1][2] from Arabic قِرَاءَة (qirāʔa, “reading”), verbal noun of قَرَأَ (qaraʔa, “to read, to recite”).[3]
