Etymology

Inherited from Ottoman Turkish ایستك (istek, wish, desire), from Proto-Turkic *īŕteg,[1] a development of *īŕte- (to seek, to pursue), whence istemek (to wish, desire). Cognate with Kyrgyz издөө (izdöö), Southern Altai истеер (isteer) and Uyghur ئىستەك (istek).
