[edit]From Old Irish *in(d)ber, from Proto-Celtic *endo-ber-o- (“carrying in”), from *endo- (“in”) (see *ande-), from Proto-Indo-European *en-do- (“in(wards), down”) (from *h₁én (“in”)) + *bʰer-o- (“carrying”). Analogous to Welsh aber (“river mouth, confluence”), which is ultimately from Proto-Celtic *adberos, constructed with *ad (“at, to, towards”).
