Etymology

From Proto-Finnic *hihna, from earlier *šišna, possibly borrowed from Proto-Baltic [Term?] (compare Lithuanian šikšnà (strap, belt, leather)), if the Baltic and Finnic words are not from a substrate.[1] Related to Erzya кшна (kšna, strap) (of the same origin).
