[edit]Inherited from Ottoman Turkish حزن (ḥazen, ḥüzn, “sadness, sorrow, melancholy, a sad thought or feeling”),[1][2] from Arabic حُزْن (ḥuzn), verbal noun of حَزَنَ (ḥazana, “to make sad, to sadden”).[3]
