[edit]Borrowed from English bunker, from Scots bunker (“bench; sand pit; coal receptacle; sleeping berth, bunk”), probably from Proto-Germanic *bunkô (“heap, pile”). Compare German Bunker, Polish bunkier, Russian бу́нкер (búnker), French bunker, Spanish búnker.
