Thìn
Appearance
Vietnamese
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Non-Sino-Vietnamese reading of Chinese 辰 (“fifth earthly branch”, SV: thần). Some dictionaries (such as Thiều Chửu's) consider it as Sino-Vietnamese, but Thìn's /-in/ is unlikely to be a Sino-Vietnamese rhyme, compared to the likely one /-ən/ in thần. See also Tí, Mẹo, Ngọ, Mùi.
