Definition of photgraph

Maybe this is technical, but is a negative considered a photograh, or only the finished print? also, the old skool definition of a photograph, originally phosautograph, was an image described by light. The image need not be fixed, as in a camera obscura. If we include fixation of the image in the definition, a Digital Image ceases to be a photograph, because an image never permanently exists on the sensor. Consider the similar action of light upon the retina, which we do not consider to cause photographs in our minds (because they are not fixed). Wiktionary attempts to describe how language is actually used, rather than provide technically correct or even logical definitions. That is more the role of Wikipedia. Most people use "photograph" to refer to any stationary image, no matter how captured, processed, and reproduced. DCDuring TALK 11:11, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
