Etymology

First attested in the Worin seokbo (月印釋譜 / 월인석보), 1459, as Middle Korean ᄩᅥ〮디다〮 (Yale: ptheti-ta), from ᄩᅳ〮 (pthú-, to depart) +‎ (-e, converb) +‎ (ti-, to fall).
