- (NAPA) vowel length, used in the alphabets of a number of American languages (e.g. see ⟨aꞏ⟩). A less-common variant is ⟨꞉⟩.
- (lexicography) The 'neutral' tone (a toneless syllable) in pinyin, e.g. Mandarin 吗 ·ma, or 知道 zhī·dào (pronounced either zhīdào or zhīdao). The zhuyin equivalent is ⟨˙⟩
- Used to transliterate the 'Phags-pa letter ꡖ.
