Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀪𑀢𑁆𑀢𑀺𑀚𑁆𑀚 (bhattijja), from Sanskrit भ्रात्रीय (bhrātrīya, fraternal), from भ्राता (bhrātā, brother) + -ईय (-īya, adjectival suffix).
