Etymology

[edit]

From Middle Persian 𐭮𐭠𐭤𐭨 (saxt), 𐭮𐭤𐭨 (saxt).

This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium.
Particularly: “A few online opinions suggest that this ultimately derives from Proto-Indo-European *ḱek- (to be able);[1][2] see Sanskrit शक् (śak) for more. Is there any literature which could verify this?”
