Understand

[edit]

Get in

[edit]

By car

[edit]

OR-99E (McLoughlin Blvd) runs through the city on a north-south alignment. From I-5, there are signs directing drivers to OR-99E and Milwaukie/Oregon City.

The OR-224 expressway goes through the center of the city, with its western terminus near downtown at OR-99E, and heading east to the rest of Clackamas County after intersecting with I-205.

By transit

[edit]

The city is served by TriMet bus and light rail. Downtown Milwaukie is the transit hub of the city with stops for every bus route, as well as light rail.

The MAX Orange line is the fastest way to get to Milwaukie from Portland. From the east, transfer to line 33 (frequent service) at Clackamas Town Center which is served by the MAX Green Line. You can also get on line 33 at Oregon City Transit Center and ride north from there.

By bicycle

[edit]

From downtown/inner Portland, take the Springwater Corridor to Sellwood, and then turn south (right) at 17th Ave, and follow the bike path to downtown Milwaukie. To reach the residential neighborhoods in the north, you can take the path along the northern border of the city to any of three access points: at 28th Ave just east of the bike bridge, at Johnson Creek Blvd., and at Stanley Ave. and then head south.

From Gladstone, cyclists can ride north along the Trolley Trail at the intersection of Portland Ave. and Jersey St.

Get around

[edit]

Downtown Milwaukie is located at the western edge of town at the waterfront of the Wilamette River. OR-224 ("the expressway") and the railroad tracks cross the city to the southeast, dividing the city in two.

By car

[edit]

From downtown, Lake Rd. Is the main arterial to neighborhoods south of the expressway, and Harrison St. (which routes on to King Rd. as it heads east) provides access to the north side of town.

Most driving in town is done to get on either OR-224 or OR-99E.
