Did the Yankees claim AL East after clinching the postseason spot for 2022?
[edit]Hello Spanneraol. Since you undo-ed my edit on the New York Yankees article, I have to clarify with a question to ask you. Since the Yankees won against the Red Sox today, MLB stated that they clinched the postseason spot for the 2022 season, but does that mean they claimed the American League East division title of 2022? I did a quick edit for it after realizing they won and clinched the postseason spot. --Allen (talk / ctrb) 03:20, 23 September 2022 (UTC)
- They clinched a postseason spot but they have not yet clinched the division title. They could still wind up as a wild card team.. Their number for clinching the east is six games. Spanneraol (talk) 13:48, 23 September 2022 (UTC)

[edit]Hello, you reverted my tagging of Mesa_Solar_Sox here indicating link is in the template, but where is, it is not obvious. Also the 2 links, Roster and Transactions in the template are dead. Keith D (talk) 19:17, 10 October 2022 (UTC)

The article Sam Field has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Unsure if this is notable enough for this baseballer to have an article based on the date of career and the absense of sources. The content is also just one sentence and two external links.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 18:54, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Sam Field until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.
Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article until the discussion has finished.

[edit]Hello Spanneraol, I'd like to explain my undo of your edit. The cited AP source says The challenge filed in Maricopa County Superior Court also alleges hundreds of thousands of ballots were illegally cast, but there’s no evidence that’s true.
That does back up that the allegations were baseless, but it does not satisfy your addition that most election observers pointing out that these claims were baseless. starship.paint (exalt) 05:20, 20 December 2022 (UTC)
- @Starship.paint: The language in the article is very POV though which is inappropriate for wikipedia.. the cited source does not say they are baseless... lack of evidence is not the same thing. I'd just like to get the language more neutral and read less biased. It should say what her complaint is and then say something about the evidence. Spanneraol (talk) 14:54, 20 December 2022 (UTC)
- I have changed the wording to “Lake’s complaint alleged that there were hundreds of thousands of illegal votes in the election, but no evidence was provided”. Does that sound neutral to you? Take note that WP:NPOV does not require Wikipedia to produce a neutral position. NPOV requires us to neutrally reflect the position of reliable sources. If reliable sources say “green”, Wikipedia must follow and say “green”, we can’t say “colourless” …

Edits Reverted on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_programs_broadcast_by_The_CW
[edit]Good morning. Could you explain why you reverted my edits on the above page? They weren't intended to be vandalism. I genuinely thought that It would be useful to sort the acquired programs based on the country/network they came from. In addition, some of the acquired programs actually seem to be American shows that originate from The CW (based on their Wikipedia pages), such as Easy Money, In Harms Way, and Valentine.
I also noticed that many pages tend to separate miniseries from the other shows, which is why I did the same for "March"
194.80.233.40 (talk) 08:13, 7 January 2023 (UTC)
- It is not necessary to separate the programs by country.. if someone really needs to know where the show is from they can click on the link. The shows you mention were not produced by the CW... they were part of a deal where the CW sold airtime to MRC. If there were many mini-series maybe separating them makes sense but we don't need a separate section for just one show. Spanneraol (talk) 15:23, 7 January 2023 (UTC)

Lack of explanation for recent change to Spectrum LA
[edit]Why is Prime Ticket's rebrand unimportant to the Spectrum SportsNet LA article? Your recent edit summary does not give any explanation or elaboration, making the edit look like an out-of-place, out-of-nowhere change that only serves as a detriment to the quality of the article. 100.7.44.80 (talk) 15:50, 5 February 2023 (UTC)
- Prime Ticket was not rebranded until many years after the event in the article, thus it is not important to the narrative of SportsNet LA. The issue is that they had a deal with Prime Ticket and then signed a new contract with Time Warner.... what happened to Prime Ticket afterwards is meaningless and ads nothing other than confusion to the article. Pecos League
[edit]Technically I did not delete the articles for the Pecos League teams they have been moved to the draft space to allow editors to improve the articles without them being permanently deleted. The reason why they have been moved to the draft space is because they do not meet the requirements of WP:NTEAM / WP:NORG. They lack any independent secondary sources, which is a fundamental requirement of WP:GNG. If supported sources can be provided which satisfy Wikipedia's notability requirements, I would be happy to reassess my position. Dan arndt (talk) 09:37, 2 March 2023 (UTC)

The article Da-Hung Cheng has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.
If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. 2024 San Diego Padres season moved to draftspace
[edit]An article you recently created, 2024 San Diego Padres season, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Zegler
[edit]When I made the edits, I was referring to Zegler with Gal Gadot at the D23 Expo. There is available video footage of all the things I have mentioned. However, I'm not good at actually putting in the citations. The IMDb interview was also with Gadot. Hope that clears things up. Spaceshuttle88 (talk) 01:53, 28 October 2023 (UTC)
- When you add negative or controversial information to an article you need to provide citations so people can check the quotes. Otherwise it can be removed. Spanneraol (talk) 02:23, 28 October 2023 (UTC)

PRODs
[edit]Hello, Spanneraol,
I'm posting a note about some articles on baseball players that you recently PROD'd. When you tagged these articles for proposed deletion, there was no notice placed on the User talk page of the article creator. You used Twinkle, which should have taken care of this for you so please check your Twinkle Preferences and make sure the box for "Notify page creator" is checked off. It's important, especially with PRODs, for article creators to be notified as the deletion rationale can often be a problem that they can address and then the tag can be removed. You used Twinkle to tag the page for deletion, which is great, so I think it is either a problem with the Preference for the editing tool or, for some reason, you unchecked the notification box. Please make sure with any future taggings that the page creator is notified. We do have a bot that will post a notice should the editor doing the tagging forget this step but it isn't 100% reliable. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 22:26, 15 November 2023 (UTC)
- I'm pretty sure twinkle notified all the article creators for this group, except for a few which were articles that i created. Spanneraol (talk) 00:47, 16 November 2023 (UTC)

Bauer Revert.
[edit]You reverted my edit on Bauer's page because you felt the details of the settlement were not relevant. This seems less than objective given there are no lack of derogatory details about an alleged assault that haven't aged particularly well in many regards. If alleged details about the assault are relevant, how can the details of the settlement not be relevant? I can appreciate your position as a Dodger fan... and I'm sure you probably don't care for the guy, but objectivity is objectivity. Mmcdonald767 (talk) 01:12, 6 December 2023 (UTC)
- It has nothing to do with liking or disliking the guy, an entire paragraph about his dispute with Molly Knight is definitely excessive.Spanneraol (talk) 01:32, 6 December 2023 (UTC)
- Well, then that's what edits are for. Revert is a bit heavy handed. There are no shortage of details about the allegation against they guy. In that light, the facts surrounding the settlement are every bit as exigent and relevant. I'm all for making whatever tweaks you might feel are appropriate but to dismiss it as irrelevant in it's entirety falls short on the smell test. Mmcdonald767 (talk) 00:51, 8 December 2023 (UTC)
- Except the Molly thing was covered in just a couple of sentences, it was not a settlement for the entire case... it was simply dropped... and since it wasn't really a key part of the whole controversy it doesnt warrant it's own section. it just says... he filed a complaint and it was dismissed.. that seems reasonable without giving it undue weight. If Anything the allegation section could probably be reduced further... I cut it back from what was way excessive previously already. Spanneraol (talk) 02:13, 8 December 2023 (UTC)
- I'm good with that. That seems more objective to me. As a matter of fact, the settled case is probably the only thing in there to keep. The whole dropped business with deadspin et. al. was a total wash and so kinda immaterial to anything related to the settled allegation. It wasn't the same case and likely doesn't merit a new section. Mmcdonald767 (talk) 02:53, 8 December 2023 (UTC)

Legacy of Clemente
[edit]Hey Spanneraol. So I have a bit of an issue with the page "Legacy of Roberto Clemente"; contrary to what the title says, it is nothing more than a list of quotes mention/praising Clemente which were mostly, if not entirely lifted from his Wikiquote page. What little relevant information on this page is already on "Roberto Clemente" (since that info was lifted from it) so I nominated it for deletion. However, there isn't much discussion on the page besides one person who votes "keep" on everything.
I was hoping, since you are a veteran at this thing, you would take a look at it and offer your opinion/vote. It is, IMO, an outlier amongst baseball pages and, as far as I can see, no athlete (regardless of sport) has such a page. Would be appreciated. Omnis Scientia (talk) 19:36, 7 January 2024 (UTC)
- Further adding: I created a Template:Roberto Clemente for a list of things or people associated with Clemente so this page has little purpose besides being a list of quotes. Omnis Scientia (talk) 19:38, 7 January 2024 (UTC)

The article Da-Hung Cheng has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Unref blp
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Boleyn (talk) 21:44, 22 March 2024 (UTC)

Jose De Leon
[edit]I noticed you edited De Leon’s page as if he retired, but gave no source. Where’d you get the info? AmericanAssociationKnowItAll (talk) 01:04, 6 May 2024 (UTC)
- He hasn't played in a year.. and Baseball Reference lists a final appearance for him. Most players dont actually announce a retirement they just come to a point where they don't get another job. If he ever plays again it can be changed back. Spanneraol (talk) 01:17, 6 May 2024 (UTC)
- The standard Wikipedia point of retirement is after 2 years. Sometimes players take a year off and then return (ex. Miguel Sano sat out the ‘23 season before signing with the Angels this year). I’m likely going to revert it just to preserve consistency. AmericanAssociationKnowItAll (talk) 15:30, 6 May 2024 (UTC)

2023 Faith Day and CK
[edit]Full disclosure: I'm queer so I feel strongly about this.
Respectfully, I think its our job to be as fair as possible here. I don't see this section in CK's article as irrelevant or non-notable. There was a huge controversy over it last year with calls to boycott the Dodgers and anti-LGBT protests outside their stadium on Pride Night. He was the most prominent member of his team to speak out against it; very uncharacteristically too, I would add; he's usually silent or VERY careful about divisive social issues.
I've added back the info but shortened it further by rewriting it. But I don't think it should be reduced to two lines with nothing about why he responded, especially when the rest of the article is well-detailed. I hope you see where I'm coming from. Thanks.
Also, I've been thinking of writing an article so this can be reduced further. The controversy envolved a number of other players from other teams. But CK was the most prominent player to speak out and against his own team so it should be mentioned. Omnis Scientia (talk) 13:29, 18 August 2024 (UTC)
- The event has not shown to have lasting notability.. giving it it's own two paragraph section is definitely WP:UNDUE. You are pushing your own personal agenda here which is against wikipedia policy and not "as fair as possible." Spanneraol (talk) 13:44, 18 August 2024 (UTC)
- I'm not. I don't see how writing about a controversy is pushing a "personal agenda". Omnis Scientia (talk) 14:00, 18 August 2024 (UTC)
- That said, your current shortened version is good and I won't be editing it further. Omnis Scientia (talk) 14:02, 18 August 2024 (UTC)
- You are giving more attention to a minor controversy by giving it it's own section. Spanneraol (talk) 14:02, 18 August 2024 (UTC)
- I want to stress that when I wrote it, I did so in good faith and have no personal agenda here. Its part of his strong Christian beliefs and there's nothing wrong with saying that. Again, thanks for shortening it further and making it more neutral and to the point. I just wanted to explain why I feel its notable. Its clear we disagree but, nevertheless, I appreciate you hearing me out. I hope you have a nice day and that all is well. Omnis Scientia (talk) 14:54, 18 August 2024 (UTC)

- Hi, me again. While I have your attention, I noticed that the image in CK's infobox is outdated by almost a decade. Is there a way to get a more recent one? I'd check/change it myself but, for some strange reason, I can't access Commons. Thanks in advance. Omnis Scientia (talk) 23:52, 19 August 2024 (UTC)
- The image is pretty good, and the article is about his whole career... I think image quality is more important than having a "more recent" photo. Spanneraol (talk) 05:25, 20 August 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Congrats on the Dodgers' World Series win! I'm a Red Sox fan and am very happy the Yankees lost. I hope you celebrated :) TheApex150 (talk) 03:34, 3 November 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Per Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Baseball/Archive_40#Inclusion_of_players_as_World_Series_Champions, every player on the postseason roster, not the World Series roster exclusively, is listed as a World Series champion. Numerous users, including myself, have repeatedly reverted back your edits despite some even citing this discussion; you are also the only one who seems to disagree. Please refrain from reverting it again.Mumbai0618 (talk) 23:38, 5 November 2024 (UTC)Mumbai0618
- Dude, that discussion went with world series roster, not postseason roster... that has been the way it has been done for the last decade. Stop trying to go against consensus.. and no I am NOT the only one reverting your bad edits. Spanneraol (talk) 00:50, 6 November 2024 (UTC)
- Fair enough, but while we're being clear, I am not the only one who has been making the edits. I don't appreciate being singled out like this. Mumbai0618 (talk) 18:11, 6 November 2024 (UTC)
Full season schedule??
[edit]Hey there. How are you?
So I just came across the 1963 Los Angeles Dodgers season page and found that an IP address added the full schedule and results in the page with the lineups of every game, all the umpires and even more. Pretty much what you would find on the BBref page, in other words. Now most of these aren't common feature on older season articles and I would remove it as its not really helpful to a casual reader. However, its clearly well intentioned and they've spent days at it. So I thought I'd bring it to your attention first. What do you think? Omnis Scientia (talk) 17:10, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
- Yea, I agree. The important information is already in the gamelog.. this seems excessive .. we don't need to know what the batting order or umpires are for each game. I feel bad for the IP who is doing all this work.. he seems to be doing it on a number of other season pages also.. maybe you should have a talk with him so he doesn't keep wasting his time. Spanneraol (talk) 17:15, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
- I'll send them a message and see where else they've done the same. Omnis Scientia (talk) 17:24, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
- I've sent them a message and explained why they should stop. Hopefully, they will be understanding.
- I also checked their contributions and it seems made big edits to a few season pages going back to late September, including a few incomplete tables. Just making a list here for convenience:

- 1960 Pittsburgh Pirates season
- 1960 Chicago Cubs season

- What a random collection of teams and seasons. Spanneraol (talk) 17:41, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
- Apparently they tried to do this to the 1996 Texas Rangers season page back in April but the IP was a banned user and the edits were subsequently reverted (here's the block history on the talk page). They were also warned in August as well. I suspect it may just be the same person doing the same thing again. Omnis Scientia (talk) 17:46, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
- In that case I wouldn't feel as bad about deleting all this stuff. Spanneraol (talk) 17:51, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
- Oh jeez, this extends to other sports too and is actually WAY before September. At least as far back as April by the looks of it.
- We may just have to take this to WP:Baseball because its way more than just these teams. (And to think I just randomly decided to check something up about the '63 Dodgers...) Omnis Scientia (talk) 17:54, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
- Looks like there may be more than one IP address he is using also. Spanneraol (talk) 17:55, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
- Well, we need to make plan of some sorts. I think an admin should be involved since there is a possibility a blocked user is behind this. Even if we do remove it, they may just keep doing it - they've been warned twice before after all. Omnis Scientia (talk) 18:21, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Muboshgu: any thoughts? Spanneraol (talk) 18:36, 7 November 2024 (UTC)

- The person seems to have stopped for the time being. It seems they've also done college basketball teams, football teams, NBA teams. Varying no. of edits for each, mostly baseball teams, but it is all adding extra info. And they've actually been warned more than twice. Omnis Scientia (talk) 16:10, 8 November 2024 (UTC)

- They won't stop at all, I'm guessing. After all, not the first time they have been warned and they've wreaked havoc on countless sports season pages for months. Should I report them for disruptive editing? Omnis Scientia (talk) 19:57, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- Yea, they arent gonna stop and I don't want to get into an edit war with them. If you do a report, mention that they seem to be using different IP addresses. Spanneraol (talk) 19:59, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- I've made one. Let's see what happens. Omnis Scientia (talk) 20:10, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- Looks like it got bumped... will probably have to report it to WP:ANI as these IPs are probably all sockpuppets of a banned user... not sure what the proper procedure is for doing that.. Spanneraol (talk) 02:23, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- I'm afraid that's my fault! I'm not very familiar with reporting and how it all goes and I'd rather try solving it diplomatically. In this case though... Very persistant. Omnis Scientia (talk) 04:36, 13 November 2024 (UTC)

Personal bias
[edit]Hi,
Your reasoning for removing my recent edit is clear cut bias and constitutes WP:OWN.
thank you, Alex9234 (talk) 20:51, 15 November 2024 (UTC)
- It does not. Learn the policies. The section in Drellich's book is based entirely on rumors and speculation and should not be treated as fact in an encyclopedia. Spanneraol (talk) 21:40, 15 November 2024 (UTC)
- ”The section in Drellich's book is based entirely on rumors and speculation”
- Your opinion, not fact.
- “Learn the policies”
- Your actions constitute WP:OWN. You do not have any right to dictate what an article may or may not say.
- You’ve been reported for vandalism as you have removed another edit without a good explanation. Alex9234 (talk) 02:02, 16 November 2024 (UTC)
- It's not "my opinion".. he says his source is a Red Sox player that alleged something.. that's not evidence.. and certainly should not be stated as fact as you did. And the policy is that if you are challenged on content, you need to go to the talk page and get others to agree.. it's about forming consensus... that is the policy.. not just forcing what you want into an article and then claiming vandalism when it is removed. The current version of the article should remain until new consensus is formed. Has nothing to do with OWN and is certainly not vandalism. I left a good explanation.. You think this stuff belongs, go to the talk page and explain your reasoning. Also, deleting content from someone elses talk page is against the rules as well. Athletics
[edit]Hello! I've just noticed you've started to flesh out the page at Oakland Athletics after I did the move; just to check, you've crossed the t's and dotted the i's when it comes to our rules on contributor attribution, right? I'm not giving you a warning template because, like me, you've been here ages, but I do want to make sure regardless. Sceptre (talk) 23:03, 22 November 2024 (UTC)
New contracts
[edit]Hello, I saw your comments on the Blake Snell article and I was curious as to what exact level of certainty you want for new signings. I distrust hot stove reporting as much as the next guy, and I think some of the edit requestors have been quite rude to you and others on the talk page, so I don't mean to be rude myself. However, Snell's already posted a photo of himself in a Dodger uniform on Instagram, which is why I felt comfortable noting that fact in my edit in the first place. Is your rule that you can't say anything until the team announces it? Or until the physical is completed? Or does the player have to say "I have signed an X-year, $Y million contract with Z team" before he is credible to report on himself? I'm confused and would like to know more. Thank you. Namelessposter (talk) 16:41, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- We don't put them into the article until the team officially announces the signing. When the reporting says "reported" "pending physical" etc. then it's not official and we don't put in things that are still pending.. this is an encyclopedia and not a breaking news source. Deals have fallen apart in the past which is why we do it that way. No reason not to wait a few days to make it official. Spanneraol (talk) 16:45, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- Okay - while I personally think a failed physical following a contract is independently notable (e.g. Carlos Correa) I don't feel the need to go against precedent. But is there any way we can put what you've said in Wikipedia:BREAKINGNEWS/WikiProject Baseball or some other appropriate location? This feels like uncodified legal doctrine to me and I think it would be nice to have a central repository of these "precedents." Same with World Series championships being limited to players on the WS roster, where it took me a while to find the relevant consensus from a decade ago. Thanks. Namelessposter (talk) 16:51, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- It is mentioned at Wikipedia:WikiProject Sports/Handling sports transactions which is linked at the top of every page in this situation. Spanneraol (talk) 16:58, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- You're certainly right about the guidance being linked at the top of the page - but that specific guidance doesn't actually answer the question of whether a free agent's own announcement is sufficient. "Sometimes players that are free agents may announce their agreement to a contract before the team confirms a contract has been signed and completed. Consensus at Wikipedia articles may determine that the player should be reflected in the article as being a member of the team, even prior to an official announcement by the team." The word "may" is quite confusing in this context and provides little clear guidance. Namelessposter (talk) 17:09, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- To establish consensus requires a conversation... also will point out that just posting a photo is not an actual announcement of a completed contract. Spanneraol (talk)

- I apparently can't reply to the latest reply so I'll briefly follow up here. I think in context the photo's more than clear enough to serve as confirmation, MLB.com treated it as such. However, I have not invested as much time into Wikipedia as you and others have, and I think the core editors warrant substantial deference when imposing common-law rules as they see fit. At some point I may end up starting a talk topic on WikiProject Baseball similar to what WikiProject NBA did here (Wikipedia talk:WikiProject National Basketball Association/Archive 26#Agreeing to vs. signing a contract) in search of more consensus. In the meantime, happy Thanksgiving. Namelessposter (talk) 17:20, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- The main issue is that the article should be stable.. we should avoid writing things that are "sources said" or "pending physical".. it should be just "player signed with team on date for x amount of money".. consistent facts that aren't gonna change in a couple of days. There is no hurry to get things changed quickly. Also the picture is not clear evidence of anything, it requires you to assume facts rather than just repeating facts. It doesn't mention terms, length, money anything. Spanneraol (talk) 17:49, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
