He was an alderman, [[Sheriff of London]] in 1609 and [[Lord Mayor of London]] in 1617. He succeeded [[John Leman]].

He married Jane, the daughter and co-heir of Sir John Hart, Lord Mayor of London, and thereby acquired the estate of Scampton, Lincolnshire. They had four children; his heir and successor was Sir John Bolle , Sheriff of Lincolnshire who was created a baronet.

He died in 1621 and was buried at St Swithins church, London.
