Rainbow Scrappy Last Saturday in January for blue.

Hello everyone,

This week I made the little blue cross blocks to go in the border for my Rainbow Scrappy ‘Boxed In’ project.  (I must apologise for the quality of the pictures in this post as the light isn’t very good at this time of year).   Here are they are on their own:Rainbow Scrappy little cross blocks_Jan14

Here they are with the blue Boxed In block:

And here is the project so far with blocks I made last year.  I haven’t set all the little cross blocks around, just a selection.:

I also ripped and re-stitched the little orange crosses which I had done the other way round last year.  I couldn’t settle to them being different to the others.

I thought I’d show you the 6 Rainbow Scrappy blocks I made in the first year I joined in with Angela’s of Soscrappy’s Rainbow Challenges.  I didn’t get far with them that  year.  Anyway, I’ve put them up on my batting design wall and I’m thinking about what to do next.  I’m considering that  I’ll add blocks of the colours I missed as they come around.   They will be 12” finished.   Here they are:Rainbow Sampler Blocks from 2012

I have also joined up with Leah Day’s Building Blocks Quilt Along, where we will be working on a block a week to piece and then free machine quilt.  I decided to choose colours alongside the colour of the month for the RSC.  Here is my first blue block pieced and quilted.  I’m in the middle of quilting my 2nd one and the third I’ll do next week.  My FMQ is a little wobbly but that’s okay.  This is a learning experience and hopefully, I’ll end up with a nice cuddly quilt for the sofa.

Lastly, I finally got around to making some marmalade.  The only one I make is a 5 fruit one.   The fruits in the recipe I use are Oranges, Lemons, Grapefruit, Pear and Bramley Apple.   However, since my DH and a few others which I share with are on medication with which they can’t eat grapefruit, I have replaced the grapefruit with limes.  Here’s a picture I took just as the fruit was starting to cook in the pan:

That’s me for this week.   I hope you will hop over to Soscrappy’s blog to check out all the other blue projects being done this month.  Lots of eye candy I can promise you ;0)   I can’t wait to find out what the colour will be for February.

Happy Stitching!

Rainbow Scrappy Challenge–2nd Saturday

Happy Scrappy Saturday everyone!  Here are some pictures of a little blue scrap basket which I finished during the week:
Blue Scrap box 2 REDBlue Scrap box 3 REDBlue Scrap box 4 REDBlue Scrap box 5 RED
It is from the e-book “Sunday Morning Quilts: 16 Modern Scrap Projects” By Amanda Jean Nyberg and Cheryl Arkison.  The instructions to make this little fabric basket are very clear, however, I really need to learn how to read them Winking smile  I omitted to top stitch around the top before putting in the cardboard support for the sides.  Never mind, the next one will go better I’m sure.   It finishes at 5.5inches high and 7.5inches square. It doesn’t seem so big but it holds all of my blue scraps which came out of another box.  I also have a jar full of skinny strips. I need to prettify the lid.  If you’d like to see what ever one else has done for their RSC this week go check out Soscrappy’s  blog.  There are some fabulous projects on the go.

I've also managed to make a scissor holder as part of Across the Pond Sew Along for this month.   The back is denim recycled from a pair of jeans and the little red check pockey is recycled from a cotton shirt.  I'm not so sure about the fabric for the big blue heart which is a hand dyed.  I'm not sure I like it  :-/ but then it's covered up with scissors and stuff so hopefully I won't notice it too much.  I wish I'd picked a lighter floral like the one in the smaller pocket at the base of that heart.  Anyway, it's mainly blue ;)   The design is by Wendy of Handmade Harbour and you can find the pattern and tutorial her blog here. :

The Across the Pond Sew Along is organized by three friends, Amanda of The Patchsmith, Amy from Amy Made That..by eamylove, and Susie of Susie's Sunroom.
You can find out more about this fun sew along here.

So that's it from me for this week.  My DD is coming home today for a week visit so I'm not sure I'll get any stitching done but you never know.

Happy Stitching!

Rainbow Scrappy Challenge 2014 and other projects

Hello everyone and a very HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all.  I know I’ve been missing from blogland for quite a long time.  Something happened way back at the back end of April and that was it.  I’m hoping things will be better this year and I can get to finish so many WIPs.
Thank you to Angela of Soscrappy blog for running the Rainbow Scrappy Challenge again this year.  I’m hoping to continue with my ‘boxed in’ blocks of which I made 4 last year.  As luck would have it this month’s challenge colour, BLUE, is not one I which had made last year.  So I pulled out my blue scraps and made it this week.   I don't have very much in bright blues so just worked with the scraps I had.    Here it is on it’s own and with the other four blocks:

I have another "BLUE" scrappy project on the go, something small, which I hope I have finished before the end of the month.

Here is a WIP which I completed last year.  “My Garden BOM” by Lynette Anderson.  I finally got it done!
Lynette Anderson's 2010 BOM My Garden
This year I’m hoping to finish another BOM and that is Tisket A Tasket from 2009.  I’ve completed 9 blocks and just have another 3 to do.  I’ve completed block 10 before 9 so here’s that one:

Finally, for this post, I’d like to show the latest mug rug I made for a friend for Christmas.  It is one of Amanda’ of The Patchsmith design.

There’s a few other projects I managed to complete last year, mainly to do with crochet, but I’ll show you a few at a time over my next few posts.   I have made another 'page' on my blog (see tab at the top) where I've listed all the WIPs I have which I could remember at the time.  I hope to whittle them down this year.

Have a good weekend and happy stitching!

The Buddette Mug Rug Swap 2012

I hope you have all had a wonderful Easter week.   Our clocks here in the UK sprung forward just after midnight on Saturday and I’m hoping the weather follows suit and Spring arrives.  Meanwhile today is lovely and sunny but oh so cold for the time of year.    The daffodils are blooming so they must think it’s spring, they are such a cheerful sight.
Now last year, around about this time, a small group of online quilting friends, The Buddettes as we call ourselves, agreed to do a mug rug swap for Christmas instead of other gifts.   Although we had months most of us typically left it to the last minute didn’t we, lol, any how all have swapped now and received so I can now show you the results.
First up, the beautiful mug rugs that were made for me.

Rainbow Scrappy Challenge 2013 Last Saturday for March and Orange

Happy Easter to you all!   It is the last Saturday for Orange and by the skin of my teeth (do teeth have skin?) I finished my blocks for this challenge.

Here they are:

First up my little orange cross blocks (does anyone know their proper name?)

RSC March13 Orange cross blocks

Here is how they look together with the last two months’ blocks:  Can you see the mistake I made with the orange cross blocks?

RSC March 13 SummaryAfter seeing Linda’s wonderful D4P quilt here which she finished recently I thought I would make extra D4Ps to go with the ones I made last year so I would have a bigger quilt.  So I made a couple more orange ones and a couple of neutral ones.  I need to make extra pink and purple to catch up.

RSC Extra D4P blocksAlso looking orangy-ish  is the long wash cloth for my DH who’s birthday it is today.   I was up until 3am last night getting it finished!  It is done with Tunisian crochet and I’ve mixed up the stitches a little.  I had no pattern I just made it up as I went along  played.   It is very stretchy.   DH likes long cloths and usually uses bar towels.  It has orange, yellow and dark red in it and is about 24 x 7 inches.

Long washcloth for Neil

Lastly, a picture of my bunny Princess Penelope:

I think that’s it for now :)  Pop over to Soscrappy and see what everyone else has done for their last Orange Saturday.

Have a great weekend!!

Hugs
