Welcome to the University of Iowa College of Education.

I am honored to lead a world-class college of education where our students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners make a positive and profound difference ­every day – leading research, engaging our communities, and preparing education and mental health professionals for innovation and impact.

More than 1,500 students from across the state, nation, and world are part of our college. These students, both undergraduate and graduate, come to learn from and conduct research with faculty in our top-ranked programs. Our students relish experiencing a Big Ten environment and the rigor of a Research I institution in a personal, welcoming, and inclusive community that supports student success and stretches them to do their best.

Our college is also home to internationally-recognized research centers such as the Belin-Blank Center for Gifted Education and Talent Development as well as new centers such as the new Scanlan Center for School Mental Health.

Our major renovation, which is close to completion, has created seven new technology-enhanced, collaborative, state-of-the-art classrooms, a more welcoming and student focused main entrance in North Lindquist that integrates our student-services offices and resources along with the dean’s suite, a new café, and more informal spaces that invite collaboration and create a sense of community.

Our college has a rich history, with Iowa legislators creating the State University of Iowa, the state's first public institution of higher education to provide teacher training for Iowa's growing population in 1847. A year later, five of the university’s first six degrees conferred were granted to teacher education graduates, and in 1874 the university created the nation’s first permanent college-level department of education – a source of pride as our university celebrates its 175^th anniversary this academic year.

I am also proud of our more than 28,000 alumni who are living and working across the state, nation, and globe as well as the hundreds of schools, granting agencies, universities, and other community partners whom we work with every day.
