Heart of Springs, the mission of which is to promote and celebrate the cultural, historical, and spiritual significance of the Springs Historic District, has announced Springs Fest, with music by Real East End Brass and Hopefully Forgiven, a food truck, beer, and wine, happening on Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Blacksmith Shop at 1 Parsons Place.

"Celebrating Bonac: The Arts, Culture, and Traditions of the Springs," a presentation of the Springs Historical Society, the Peter Matthiessen Center, and "The Bonackers" film project, will take place on Sunday from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at the Springs Library. Baymen and longtime locals will share stories, songs, and traditions, along with displays of centuries-old crafts including decoy carving, quilts, fishing techniques, whaling relics, wampum, and paintings.

Joanne Friedland Roberts, the producer and director of "The Bonackers," will screen a short segment from the documentary, and excerpts from Matthiessen's classic 1986 "Men's Lives" will be read. Food trucks will be on hand.

Albie Lester, Bonacker, fisherman, clamshell-carver, wampum-maker, Round Swamp Lester, and member of East Hampton High School's class of 1966, was the star attraction last month when the East Hampton Historical Farm Museum held it's own celebration of "Speaking Bonac: Tales, Traditions and Wisdom."  Irene Silverman
