The Firefly Five Plus Lou is a band in Disney's 2009 animated feature film The Princess and the Frog.
Description[]
The Firefly Five Plus Lou was a jazz band active in New Orleans in the 1920s. The band was composed of five human musicians along with the trumpet playing alligator, Louis. The band was known to perform in Tiana's Palace, a restaurant in New Orleans run by Louis' friend Princess Tiana. The drum logo for the band has two stars on it, representing the deceased firefly Ray who was in love with the Morning Star, Evangeline.
History[]
Background[]
The Firefly Five Plus Lou was established around the year 1926, giving the alligator Louis an opportunity to play his music. The name and drum design of the band appeared to be a tribute to Louis and Tiana's late firefly friend, Ray. This band performed in Tiana's restaurant, Tiana's Palace, in New Orleans.
Development[]
The Firefly Five Plus Lou briefly appeared in the epilogue section of The Princess and the Frog (2009). The name of the band was an allusion to the Firehouse Five Plus Two, a real-life Dixieland jazz band which consisted of Disney animators.

The Princess and the Frog[]
They are first seen in "Down in New Orleans" where they can be seen walking around in New Orleans playing jazz music for the opening title of the film.
They were later seen where Prince Naveen's royal valet, Lawrence, was looking for Naveen until he spotted him playing music with a jazz musical group to entertain the people in New Orleans.
The Drummer and Trumpeter can be seen in a flashback where Louis the Alligator was telling Naveen and Tiana that he tried to play music with the people on a riverboat, but didn't go well when Louis escaped from being targeted by hunters.
They were seen again on the riverboat but in costumes for the Mardi Gras party, where they were walking until they spotted Louis thinking that it was a person in a real life alligator costume and asked Louis to be a part of their band, which made him surprised and happy, then later followed them.
Then they were at the Mardi Gras party on a parade float playing music, until when Dr. Facilier's shadow minions were chasing Tiana in a cemetery, which got Louis' attention, which made the drummer ask Louis why he had stopped playing music. Then it made the band and people scared as they ran away, now knowing that Louis was a real alligator.
They were seen one last time in the reprise version of "Down in New Orleans", as the band now have an official band name "Firefly Five Plus Lou", as Louis is their leader, they were playing music on stage in the restaurant, Tiana's Palace where Tiana and Naveen are hosting the party in her restaurant.
