Juan-Carlos Zúñiga
(Juan Carlos Zuniga)
Juan Carlos Zuniga is a telecommunications expert with over 20 years of international experience. He is a Distinguished Engineer at Cisco, working for the Global Technical Standards team.
He is currently co-chair of the IETF Internet Area WG, co-chair of the MADINAS WG, and an active member of different Privacy, Security and IoT programs at the IAB, ISOC and IEEE.
In the past, he led the IPR and standardization strategy at the CTO office of SIGFOX Corp, a global IoT Network Operator and Service Provider. He also helped as Technical Program Manager (TPM) for the IoT-based Seismic Alert project in Mexico of the SIGFOX Foundation, which is an organization working on humanitarian causes.
Juan Carlos is highly skilled in positioning technology to drive standards, develop business and ensure market adoption. He is experienced in leading technology development and standardization activities in the areas of IoT, Data Privacy, NFV/SDN, 5G and Wi-Fi. He has contributed and held leadership roles in different standards fora, such as IETF, IEEE 802, ETSI, 3GPP and W3C. Juan Carlos has served as Guest Editor of IEEE Communications Magazine, and he is inventor of more than 50 granted USPTO/EPO patents and 70 published applications.
Previously, he worked with InterDigtial Canada Ltd, Harris Communications Canada, Nortel Networks UK, and Kb/Tel Mexico. Juan Carlos received his engineering degree from the UNAM, Mexico, and his MSc from the Imperial College London, UK.
