Perfect spot to treat yourself to brunch

Before the storms, rain and chilly weather all set in, we were lucky enough to have an enjoyable Saturday brunch along the famous Phinikoudes beach front. The weather was perfect, we were a stone’s throw from the sea and could hear the sound of waves crashing on the shore in the distance.

We had booked a table at The Brewery. Although I prefer to sit outside, we weren’t asked when booking what our preference would be. It became apparent when we arrived as the indoors was being renovated!

We were approached by a waiter who led us to our table although we weren’t too keen on the soft couch like seating but another table was made up for us immediately and without any fuss. Our friends were running a little late, leaving us ample time to peruse the menu, a large piece of card with not a square centimetre of space wasted. It was filled with many options that were wonderfully described and pictures of some of the dishes.

Smack bang in the middle was a full English. My knee jerk reaction was a ‘yes please’. However, the voice of reason to my left reminded me that I can have that any time, in multiple places and perhaps I should try something different. Of course, she was right so I set off on the journey of navigating this huge menu. I was pleased to see that there were many vegan options available. I finally settled on the Bagel La Brouillage; scrambled AND griddled egg, grilled halloumi, crispy bacon, avocado smash, feta mousse, pomegranate and strawberry. I was even getting some of my five-a-day!

My partner went for egg and avocado Tartine which is organic griddled eggs, avocado smash, beetroot yogurt truffle, dill on toasted multigrain rye sourdough bread served with crispy salad with coriander dressing.

Our friends arrived and ordered a variety of vegan friendly options. Peanut butter, oat, protein pancakes, vegan omelette and Next Level Avocado Toast.

Still having the thought of that full English in the back of my mind, I took my first mouthful of my Brouillage. Oh wow, so much better than I had expected! The griddled egg broke open so effortlessly leaving the yolk to satisfyingly trickle down the side of my bagel. The feta mouse was really good and the bacon and halloumi cooked just right. I was so glad I had the great idea of not going for that full English.

The protein pancake stack looked impressive. My friend cut through them very easily with just the side of his fork. I could see just how fluffy they were. His daughter enquired why her food was brought out on a small wooden table. For a minute, we were just as perplexed until we realised it was the Next Level Avocado Toast. Literally on another level. Genius!

The food got a big thumbs up from everybody. The service was good and we couldn’t have asked for a better setting. All in all, it was an enjoyable experience and I will definitely be going back. However, I won’t be rushing back too soon because despite everything, it was a little on the pricey side. Adding to that, we actually didn’t ask for a bottle of water, but, we were brought one and charged €4! Additionally, while the size of the dishes were not measly, they were not generous either. If you’re looking for a hearty, filling brunch you don’t get an enormous bang for your buck at The Brewery but it’s a lovely place for a treat.
