1:50 p.m. - 2:20 p.m. | PostgreSQL Versus MySQL — What Are the Real Differences? (Dave Stokes, Technology Evangelist, Percona) MySQL and PostgreSQL are open source databases that, from a very high viewpoint, seem to do the same thing. However, subtle and non-subtle differences can severely impact your project. There are features missing in one that are in the other (JSON_TABLE() and MERGER(), for example) that will change the way you handle your data. Administration for either database needs special skills, and backups can potentially cause you great angst. So how do you pick ‘THE ONE’ for your needs? Where are the pain points that you need to avoid? This session explores the differences between MySQL and PostgreSQL so you can make an informed decision for your business. |
2:20 p.m. - 2:50 p.m. | Running Databases in the Cloud: How to Reduce Infrastructure Costs Using Open Source Components and Kubernetes (Matthew Boehm, Senior Architect, Percona) When it comes to scaling your database environment, even seemingly minor decisions can majorly impact your bottom line. This is true regardless of whether you’re running a Database as a Service (DBaaS) or an on-premises solution. In this session, we will look at the common reasons why costs spiral out of control when scaling, as well as discuss potential open source, cloud-native solutions for PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and MySQL. |
2:50 p.m. - 3:40 p.m. | Fireside Chat with Percona Customer - Ravi Kulkarni, IT Director, Database Engineering, Dell Technologies Ravi Kulkarni is a Director of Database Engineering for Dell Digital, the IT organization supporting Dell Technologies.
