English: Holi, or Holli (Sanskrit: होली), is a Spring festival celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs and others. It is primarily observed in India, Nepal, Sri Lanka and countries with large Indic diaspora populations. The main day, Holi, also known as Dhuli Vandana, is celebrated by people throwing coloured powder and coloured water at each other. Bonfires are lit the day before, also known as Holika Dahan ("burning of Holika") or Chhoti Holi ("little Holi"). Holi is celebrated at the end of the winter season on the last full moon day of the lunar month Phalguna (February/March, Phalgun Purnima).

The meaning of the colors Holi is known as the "festival of colors" playing with colored powders. The colors used in Holi have symbolic meanings that vary based on the region.

Red is the color of purity and chastity, green symbolize fertility and new life. Yellow is the color of knowledge and intellect. The colors are not used only for the purpose of playfulness, but also to represent the different aspects of life.
