Colombia will host the upcoming FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup 2024. The tournament will feature 52 matches across three major Colombian cities: Bogota, Cali, and Medellin. In Bogota, games will take place at the Nemesio Camacho El Campin Stadium and the Metropolitano de Techo Stadium. In Cali, the teams will play at the Estadio Pascual Guerrero. Finally, Medellin will host matches at the Atanasio Girardot Stadium.
Colombia women’s football team to face Australia in opening match of U-20 World Cup
This Women’s World Cup marks the first edition in which players from 24 different teams will participate. The 24 national teams were divided into six groups of four, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the round of sixteen qualifiers. The competition will take place from August 31 to September 22.
The women’s football team of Colombia will play in group A, competing against Australia, Cameroon, and Mexico. Their schedule is as follows:
- On August 31, they will face Australia at 6:00 p.m. (Colombian time UTC-5) at El Campin Stadium.
- On September 3, they will play against Cameroon at 8:00 p.m. at the same venue.
- Their final group match will be against Mexico at the Atanasio Girardot Stadium.
FIFA will then determine the teams that qualify for the next phase. The other participating groups are composed as follows:
- Group B: France, Canada, Brazil, and Fiji.
- Group C: Spain, United States, Paraguay, and Morocco.
- Group D: Germany, Venezuela, Nigeria, and South Korea.
- Group E: Japan, New Zealand, Ghana, and Austria.
- Group F: North Korea, Argentina, Costa Rica, and Netherlands.
Official song for the World Cup set to launch on August 16
Colombia is in the midst of its preparations for the soccer event. FIFA has announced that it will release the official song for the Women’s World Cup, “Aheh-Aheh,” on August 16. The original composition, created by Mambo Kingz and DJ Luian, will include performances by Colombian artists Nath and Ysa C.
Ysa C is a pioneer in Afro-Colombian music who uses her voice and rhythm to pay homage to her cultural heritage and to women. Nath, known for her contemporary and dynamic style, adds a modern touch to the track.
“This is a proud moment for Colombia,” said Ysa C. “We are showcasing our culture and passion for soccer to the world. The Women’s World Cup Colombia 2024 is not just about the sport, it celebrates the unity and diversity of our country.”
Colombia secures agreement to support the World Cup
The Colombian Football Federation (FCF) and the Ministry of Sports announced today, August 14, their joint commitment to support the organization and execution of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup 2024 in Colombia. They signed an agreement valued at approximately 7 billion Colombian pesos (US $1.7 million) to cover expenses related to land and air transportation, meals, logistics, and other essential services for the 24 participating teams.
“We are proud to sign this agreement with the Ministry of Sports, a crucial partner in advancing soccer and sports in Colombia. Moreover, this support highlights our commitment to the successful preparation of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup 2024, an event that will showcase our country on the global stage,” said Ramon Jesurun, President of the FCF.
