Promises

There is something so familiar about Promises, the collaboration between Floating Points, Pharoah Sanders and the LSO. I can’t pin down why just yet, but that familiarity may stem from the warmth of Sanders’ often peaceful sax or the sense of renewal in the metronomic seven-note motif. It feels like this music was always there, waiting.
I’ve enjoyed Floating Points’ previous albums, but Promises is something else entirely: comforting, spacious, generous and occasionally thrilling. This is an album not to be written off after a few minutes or rushed in any way. It’s a work of art to spend time with, revealing more and more with every listen.
