Can you tell us about your career prior to this role?
I started at the University of Iowa as director of operations at the Obermann Center for Advanced Studies. It was the perfect first position to hold at the university since it allowed me to engage with faculty from a variety of disciplines and witness true collaborations. After my time at the Obermann Center, I moved to Denver, Colorado, where I worked as the program manager for Undergraduate Experiences in Academic Affairs at the University of Colorado Denver. This role was a fantastic opportunity to focus on enhancing student engagement and academic success.
Eventually, the call of Iowa City drew me back. I joined the College of Dentistry as the administrative services administrator, where I managed various administrative functions and supported faculty and staff. After a few years at the College of Dentistry, I served as senior HR director and special assistant to the dean at the College of Law. In this position, I focused on human resources strategies while also contributing to the overall leadership and administration of the college.

What is something unique about you that people might not know?
Something unique about me that many people might not know is that I was born in Iran and, along with my family, fled as refugees to Sweden. We were warmly embraced by the Swedish community, which played a significant role in shaping my upbringing. I grew up in Sweden, and then I moved to the United States in my late 20s. This journey has given me a rich perspective on culture and resilience, and I carry that diverse background with me in both my personal and professional life. It’s shaped how I approach challenges and connect with others from different walks of life.
I have two kids; Lily is 14 and in 8th grade at Northwest Junior High and Henrik is 10 and attending 5th grade at Wickham Elementary. They keep me busy with their many activities!
