The Thorn Whip is a recurring whip in the Castlevania series. It is a whip affixed with thorns that cut painfully as it strikes.
Game specific information[]
Castlevania II: Simon's Quest[]
The Thorn Whip is an upgrade to the Leather Whip. It can be purchased in the town of Jova (the same town where the game begins) for the price of 100 Hearts. Despite being a "thorn" whip, its appearance is similar to the Leather Whip, both in-game and in the instruction booklet, although it is longer and deals out twice as much damage.
Castlevania: Circle of the Moon[]
The Whip of Thorns can be formed by combining the Mercury and Mandragora DSS cards. When struck, the resulting vine whip spreads little rose petals, although this is just aesthetic and doesn't affect gameplay. The whip deals Plants damage, a unique elemental attribute in Circle of the Moon. It usually deals greater damage to most enemies than the normal whip, but deals minimal damage to plant-based enemies.
Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin[]
The Rose Stem Whip can be dropped by the Maneating Plant in the Forest of Doom or can later be found in the Tower of Death. A unique feature is that it also features the Slash damage type alongside with whip.

Notes[]
- In Castlevania II: Simon's Quest, the player can still purchase a Thorn Whip even if they have a stronger weapon, and downgrade their attack output this way.
