 —Spider

The Spider (referred to as Spuder within the game's files and in the title of his boss theme) is the boss of Chapter 1. He is located in Snakemouth Den and, intentionally or not, guards the Ancient Mask.
The Spider is considered a lesser bug, and is incapable of coherent speech. Prior to the events of the game, he captures Leif and traps him in a web. During the course of Chapter 1, he attacks Vi and Kabbu in two separate (cutscene-like) fights, and a final fight at the end of the chapter with the full party.
Battle Information[]
The Spider is battled three times over the course of Chapter 1. In the first two encounters, he cannot be harmed, as he has 99 defense and 999 HP, or Spied.
First Encounter[]
In the first battle, Kabbu is alone, as Vi retreats prior to the fight. The Spider is scripted to use Bite on the first turn, Bite followed by Web Cling on the second turn, and Poison Spit on the third turn. After the Spider uses Poison Spit, the battle ends.
Second Encounter[]
In the second battle, Kabbu and Vi must destroy the web behind the Spider that contains Leif, while the Spider is clinging to the ceiling and attacking with Poison Spit. Once the web is destroyed, the battle ends.
Third Encounter[]
In the third battle, Leif is present, and the Spider can be defeated. In the beginning of the fight, the Spider roars, allowing him to make two attacks per turn. Once he reaches half of his maximum HP, he summons an Inichas in front of him and a Jellyshroom behind it, freeing himself from any status effects that prohibit attacking in the process.
Attacks[]
Bite: The Spider walks up to a party member and bites them, dealing 2 damage. This attack is only used when the Spider is on the ground.
Poison Spit: The Spider spits a glob of poison at a party member, dealing 2 damage and causing Poison if not blocked. This attack is only used when the Spider is clinging to the ceiling.
Poison Breath: The Spider breathes purple gas towards the party, which deals 1 damage and causes Poison, if not blocked, to the entire party. This attack is only used when the Spider is on the ground, and it uses a Button Mash action command.
Web Cling: The Spider shoots a web at the ceiling, then pulls himself up, making himself Flying. This attack is only used when he is on the ground.

| During Leif's Request, it is revealed that the Spider had killed Leif before trapping him in the web, and kept him there long enough for an escaped cordyceps to inhabit Leif's body. |

- In the Bug Fables demo, the Spider can be refought by entering the large door in Snakemouth Den after finishing the demo chapter. In the full version, this door instead leads to the entrance of Upper Snakemouth.
- Its nickname, "Spuder", was originally a placeholder name.[1]
