can you make without the canned soup? would the broth and gravy packets be enough for gravy?
Bowl Me Over says
It would probably be enough, but I've never done it that way. The cream of chicken soup adds so much creaminess. If you try it, swing back and let me know how it turns out!
Sarah Warner says
Can I cook on high ?
Bowl Me Over says
Yes you cook on high for four hours. I think it's more tender cooking on low, but that works when you're short on time!
Mary Neeley says
This recipe looks yummy! Can I use cooked chicken instead of raw chicken? Then how long would I cook it in the crockpot? Thank you for your help!
Bowl Me Over says
I've used cooked chicken, I'm sure it would effect the cooking time, but I can't tell you exactly what that is. If you do decide to use cooked chicken, I'd cook it on low for 3-4 hours. Let me know how it turns out for you. Enjoy the recipe!
Mary Neeley says
Thank you so much for helping me. I cooked it for 3/12 hours on low and it was perfect! It was a big hit and I have picky eaters, do this is a big win! I’m excited to try more of your recipes. Thank you again.

How would one go about doubling this recipe? I've heard that it's not so simple as doing everything times 2 when it comes to crockpots, but what do you think?
Bowl Me Over says
This can easily be doubled, no worries at all. It's a great recipe if you're meal planning because it freezes great as well. Enjoy! Also you can adjust the number of servings by using the slide bar at the serving number if that helps in the future!

Debra, Your recipe calls for - "3-4 skinless boneless chicken breasts".
As chicken breasts can weigh anywhere from 4 oz. to over 1 lb. each, can you tell me what total WEIGHT of the chicken is for the recipe? Thanks
Bowl Me Over says
Plan on 2 to 2 1/2 pounds of boneless skinless chicken.
Gina says
I would serve this over garlic mashed potatoes with a side of broccoli or cauliflower
Toni D says
I can't wait to make this for dinner tonight. Thank you so much for sharing! Question, there are two different instructions for thicker gravy so when you add the cornstarch do you cook it another 10 min or 30 min. Thanks
Bowl Me Over says
Ooh! Let me correct that Toni - it takes about 30 minutes in the crockpot. Thank you! I hope you really enjoy this meal!
Tonda Hunter says
Thank you for clarifying that for me! It's in the Crock-Pot right now with about 45 min to go. Looks delicious and smells that way too! I can't wait to serve it with mashed potatoes for me and our friend but my husband will have to have brown rice due to his diabetes. I'm sure both ways will be fantastic! Thanks again Debra!

It also is wonderful over waffles with mashed potatoes and corn on the side.

Mary McNelley says
How can it be modified using 1 large chickens breast (1lb)? Cut all ingredients in half? Cook the same amount of time?
Bowl Me Over says
Hey Mary, great question! If you touch the servings in the recipe card, there's a slider bar to reduce the number of servings. Take it down to 2 servings and that will calculate the ingredients amounts for you. The cooking time doesn't change. Enjoy the recipe, it's one of my favorites!
Kim Jepko says
In Pa Dutch country you would eat this mixture on top of a home made waffle.
Bowl Me Over says
That sounds absolutely fabulous Kim, I will add that to the recipe - thank you! Enjoy the meal!

My entire family loves this recipe. We make it about 3 times a month. Thanks for sharing this.
christine rennehan says
could this be adapted to an instant pot recipe?
Bowl Me Over says
Hey Christine, I have not made this in the pressure cooker yet. If so, I would add a cup of water, set on manual to 12 minutes and natural pressure release at the end. Again, I have not made it yet, but that's how I'd start! Enjoy the recipe!!
rhonda says
can you use the chicken breasts frozen or do you have to thaw them first?
Bowl Me Over says
I always thaw the meat before adding to the crockpot. I checked the USDA site just to be sure and that's their recommendation as well. Just allow it to thaw in the refrigerator overnight for the best result.
Shellie says
Can this be made in an instant pot?
Bowl Me Over says
Hey Shellie - I did not develop this recipe for the instant pot and I'm concerned there wouldn't be enough liquid with the thickening agents in the gravy packets. When I do, I'll be sure to swing back and update the recipe.
Noel Fuller says
Yes it can be I just made it in the instapot tonight for dinner and it turned out amazing i followed the recipe exactly and it turned out great!
Bowl Me Over says
Thanks Noel, I appreciate you letting us know! How long did you leave it in for? I'd like to give that a try and update the recipe for IP users! Thank you!
A Denenberg says
How would you change the recipe if you had actual chicken gravy, not the packets? Lessen the amount of chicken broth? Looking forward to making this tomorrow!
Bowl Me Over says
I haven't made it this way, but I'd start with eliminating the broth and packets. I would still season with salt, pepper and garlic powder. Mix the gravy with the dijon mustard and chicken soup. Pour over chicken and cook on low. Let me know how it turns out!
Jim Kearney says
