Towers of Twin Dragons is a location in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. It is located beyond the Garden of Silence, and provides access to Livre Ex Machina.
The eponymous towers are represented in-game as two machine-driven towers around which Miriam travels in 2.5D, where the background appears to exist on a 3D plane and rotates even as she travels on a fixed 2D plane that spirals around the structure. This interferes with the functionality of some weapons and Shards, particularly Reflector Ray (which does not work in the outdoor areas at all) and the homing of Adrasteia.
Progression[]
The east end of the Garden of Silence branches out into exits into the Bridge of Evil below and the Towers of Twin Dragons above. When you first get to this point, the southwest "quadrant" of the zone — as in, the lower half of the west tower — is the only part of the zone your abilities can reach. While trekking up through the tower exterior in this screen, you can find the Hair Apparent VI book at the bottom of the middle trapdoor platforms. Once you get into the series of horizontal hallways above the exterior tower screen, you can only proceed west into Livre Ex Machina, viewing a cutscene along the way.
The Andrealphus boss in Livre Ex Machina awards the Double Jump skill shard, and the first mandatory use of it is to return to the horizontal hallways in the west tower of this zone and jump up through the hole next to the three Poltergeists. The ability will help you scale the upper half of the tower, and using precise applications of its kick-attack functionality to rebound off certain candles will get you to some valuable green chests out of the way: Hair Apparent VII, Pasta/R, and Sweets/R.
When you reach the roof-level hallways shared between both towers, find the warp room off to the left, pick up the Special Ammunition/R from the green chest on your way east, and flip a lever to unlock the elevator. Pass through it to the upper-right corner of the zone, then explore the zone downward until you fight the Valac boss. At the end of it, open the gold chest near where the boss fell to find the Silver Bromide key item. Bring this to Dominique in Arvantville to exchange it for the Identification, then bring that to Orlok Dracule to exchange that for the Passplate, and finally bring that to the machine in the Bridge of Evil to initiate the train trip to Underground Sorcery Lab.
Late in the game, pass east through the elevator while it is parked at the bottom of the shaft to return to the bottom left corner of the tower screen where Valac was fought, and cast the Invert ability acquired in Inferno Cave to fall all the way up past the tower to that screen's northwest corner. This brings you to the critical Aegis Plate armor, which you need to equip to protect yourself from spikes and other hazards — which is necessary to reach the Oriental Sorcery Lab above the very tall opening chamber of the Entrance zone. Invert will also help you reach through a hole in the slanted ceiling at the top of the spiraling path where you had fought the twin dragons, where a green chest contains the Valkyrie Dress.
Right at the end of the game, when you have gotten the Dimension Shift shard, you can make one more return visit to the "box" at the top of the Valac boss area, underneath the east save point, and cast it to warp underneath the thin bridge above what appears to be a chasm. Miriam will land on a floor and be able to open a chest that lies just out of reach of the camera, which contains the Valkyrie Sword.
Characters[]
On the first pass through the area, Miriam will encounter Gebel and Gremory in the corridor midway up the left-hand tower leading to Livre Ex Machina. Gebel and Miriam argue over whether absorbing Shards is corrupting the latter, but are soon interrupted by Alfred. After a brief battle, Gremory and Gebel leave, with Alfred following, leaving a frustrated Miriam behind.

Other modes[]
Bloodless Mode[]
Bloodless has more freedom in exploring this area than Miriam does. She can enter it for the first time either from the ground or from the Livre Ex Machina; the latter option will put her halfway to the top of the west tower. After defeating Valac, she will find the Blood Steal ability on the ground. The Blood Steal must then be used to drain the blood fountain in the Entrance so that she can properly explore the Forbidden Underground Waterway.
Blood Shards[]
- Arcane Blood × 1
- Blood of Erudition × 1
- Blood Steal
Aurora Mode[]
When Aurora has defeated Craftwork in the Dian Cécht Cathedral and gained the ability to fly, the narration hints that she should go to "the tallest tower", which refers to this area. She can use her newfound ability to come to this area through either the Garden of Silence or the Livre Ex Machina; the route through the former area is shorter and safer, but the latter option allows her to defeat more bosses and collect more items on the way here.
Regardless of where she comes from, navigation through the Towers is simple as she can fly over most obstacles on the way to Valac. Defeating the boss – which the narration describes as a "foul dragon" – causes her to grow back into an adult. She can then explore the Forbidden Underground Waterway fully and proceed to other areas from it.
A secluded room at the top of the east tower contains a Confession inside a chest.
Trivia[]
- Like many other environments in Bloodstained that thematically correspond to classic Castlevania settings, the Towers of Twin Dragons zone spiritually succeeds the clock tower stages of various Castlevania games, complete with prominent gears and cogs that serve as obstacles.

- ↑ On their first visit to this stage, the player initially only has the option to proceed to the Livre Ex Machina while leaving the rest of the area unexplored. Once they have defeated the boss of that stage, Andrealphus, and acquired its shard, Double Jump, they can return to the Towers of Twin Dragons to finish exploring the rest of the stage.
- ↑ After defeating the boss of this stage, Valac, the player will have access to a golden chest containing the Silver Bromide. After paying a quick visit to Dominique in Arvantville, and then another to O.D. in the Livre Ex Machina, they next need to go to the Bridge of Evil to continue progressing through the game.
