~ Description from Ritual of the Night |
The Revenant is an optional boss in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.
Appearances[]
Ritual of the Night[]
The decayed undead remains of a presumably once ancient heroic warrior who is now possessed by evil. He wears barbaric attire, and likewise, uses primitive weaponry, which not for that are any less effective. His main weapon is a whip that ignites when struck, and also employs throwable sub-weapons to attack from a distance. He is encountered in the locked Warhorse's Room in the Garden of Silence, whose key is found in the Glacial Tomb, the final area of the game. As such, he can only be fought during the final parts of the game.
The Revenant is strictly a grounded enemy and he moves remarkably slowly (although he tends to jump a lot); however, he makes up for this handicap by using a wide repertoire of ranged attacks, which include an array of throwable sub-weapons. In addition, his whip allows him to perform relatively long ranged attacks. All of his attacks generally deal a high amount of damage.
The player can exploit his slow mobility by constantly trying to position themselves behind him and quickly attacking him from behind (which is easily achieved by usage of the Accelerator shard). However, the player is advised not to get too greedy and get away from him after punishing him enough, as he tends to jump backward over the player to reposition in front of them once more in one swift move.
When defeated, he has a chance to drop the Ruinous Rood shard and also an Imbrued Skull, a material used in advanced crafting.
Defeating him is the requirement for Lindsay's "Avenge the death of Richter!" quest. Once this has been achieved, she will reward the player the Bandit Blade, a powerful sword that sometimes makes enemies drop extra items (quite useful during farming sessions).
Dominique's Curse[]
A Revenant is one of the four Hunters that Dominique Baldwin can encounter during her stay in Limbo. The Revenant is summoned by crouching down at the centermost tomb in Tartarus, during a Dead Moon and with the Devil's Ring in the inventory, a treasure which can be found in a chest reachable through Dimension Shift at the Cocytus Ridge. Upon being defeated, he will relinquish the optional attack shard Ruinous Rood, and then he will relocate at the town of Paulina, becoming an exchanger of demon remains for coin.
Location[]
The Revenant can be found inside the locked Warhorse's Room in the Garden of Silence (located below and to the left of the Coachman). The room can only be opened with the Warhorse's Key, found in the Den of Behemoths, the penultimate area of the game.
Trivia[]
- This enemy is a reference to the classic warrior members of the Belmont Clan from the Castlevania series (especially to Simon Belmont, the most iconic protagonist of the franchise), portrayed as a whip-wielding, barbarian-like warrior who also makes use of a sub-weapon-like secondary arsenal, similar to the iconic Dagger, Axe, Cross and Holy Water often appearing in said series.
- Further supporting this reference, the Revenant has an affinity to Light damage and is weak to Dark, like the members of the aforementioned clan generally are.
- The portal from where the Revenant emerges is almost identical to the one where the Doppelganger comes out in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, being a gate made of several layers that each starts rotating and opening successively until a portal to another dimension is revealed.
- The Revenant also bears a notable resemblance to Fake Trevor (especially his weaker re-resurrected form), a zombie impersonating Trevor Belmont, one of the most renowned heroes of the Castlevania franchise.
- His whip ignites when struck, which could be a reference to the Flame Whip, a recurring weapon of the series.
- His HP is 6,666, which is likely a reference to "666", also known as the number of the beast.
