Poison is a damage type featured in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. It is a status ailment that gradually depletes the player's HP.
Description[]
Certain enemies in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night have the ability to poison the protagonist; these usually are either insect- or venomous toad-type enemies. The protagonist can also poison themself by consuming the item of the same name or Dark Matter, and can poison enemies using some weapons and Shards. When someone has been poisoned, their character model will acquire a sickly-looking pale green tint and start producing green bubbles that will float a bit upward and then pop. During the duration of the effect, the protagonist will gradually lose a small amount of HP every few seconds; this will continue until the effect wears off. The amount of damage taken scales as a protagonist's HP maximum arises, making poison as much a threat in later levels as it is early on.
If poisoned, the player is advised to cure the ailment as soon as possible, as the accumulated damage will mean losing a great quantity of HP, often greatly or even completely depleting the player's HP reserves if at a low enough Level; more so, because the Poison status lasts a relatively long time before it wears off by itself.
Treatments[]
- The most basic method to cure Poison is just to wait until the effect wears off by itself. The player may consume healing items from their inventory or heal by other means (e.g.: by equipping Shards with healing abilities) to compensate for the loss of HP during the duration of the ailment.
- Consuming a Mithridate will instantly cure the Poison status. These are usually dropped by the very same enemies that inflict the status in the first place.
- Resting at a Save Room will instantly cure the Poison status and fully heal the player.
- The Resist Poison Passive Shard reduces the probability of being poisoned after sustaining a Poison inducing attack. At a higher Rank, the higher the chance of totally nullifying the Poison attack. At a higher Grade (i.e., number of shards collected), the higher the chance of not contracting the ailment.
- If this shard is enhanced to Rank 9 and becomes a Skill Shard, the player will have a permanent +10 bonus to their resist Poison stat (as long as the shard is enabled).
