A breastplate that nullifies all damage from traps and hazardous environments.

The Aegis Plate is a Body Armor in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.

Description[]

The Aegis Plate is an ordinary armor in terms of stats with a DEF rating of only 25 and no elemental resistances. It isn't even the best armor in that room, as the Valkyrie Dress, which grants 40 DEF and +7 LCK, can be picked up when the player returns with Invert. However, it has the enormous special effect of a 100% guard rate against all types of environmental damage. This isn't restricted to spikes, and will also protect Miriam from active area hazards such as guillotine blades, and even the lava lakes in the Inferno Cave.

As a key item[]

The Aegis Plate is a prerequisite to reach the "true" ending path; it is used along with Invert and Craftwork in the first room of the Entrance (where the statue fell from above in the background when Miriam first entered). Inverting here will lead to a series of narrow horizontal passages with spikes on the floor and ceiling. Two have iron maidens which need to be moved with Craftwork in order to proceed. On reaching the top of this area, Miriam will be able to enter the Oriental Sorcery Lab.

Availability[]

The chest containing the Aegis Plate is located at the top-left of the outdoor section of the right-hand tower in the Towers of Twin Dragons, where Miriam previously fought the boss Valac. In order to acquire it, Miriam must have acquired the Invert shard. Moving to the side-on "2D" area to the left of the base of the tower, the player can then trigger Invert to send Miriam up to the top. The chest is located in a narrow crevice protected by spikes, requiring some careful maneuvering to reach it while avoiding damage.

As an item related to progression, the Aegis Plate is removed from Miriam's inventory in New Game Plus.

Trivia[]

  • Its in-game role (an ordinary armor linked to unlocking the true ending by negating a large area of otherwise-lethal spikes) is similar to that of the Spike Breaker armor in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, save that it does not actually destroy hazards but protects against more than just spikes.
