"Remembrance" 「追想幻燈 Tsusiō gentō」 is the twelfth episode of Basilisk.
Summary[]
Saemon Kisaragi chases Hotarubi where he manages to injure her with a kunai and tells Kagerō that he can handle her alone and she needs to go apologize to Gennosuke Kōga. The Iga ninja also take a break for the night and Tenzen Yakushiji wonder if they had send Hotarubi and Nenki Mino to their own deaths. Oboro recalls a time she spend with Gennosuke and how she apologized to him as she had decided to be his even before she saw him at the marriage meeting and Gennosuke told her that when he saw her eyes, he felt she is the one.
Saemon continues to chase the butterflies, but eventually realizes he was tricked and returns to Gennosuke. He sees the dead Nenki and Hyōma Muroga asks him about Hotarubi. Saemon reveals he was tricked and Gennosuke judging from the direction of the butterflies, guessed Hotarubi ran on the opposite direction. Saemon then angrily takes Nenki's body down and lifts him up by his hair.
Akeginu sneaks out during the night. Koshirō Chikuma is by the river practicing his Whirlwind and recalls how he faced Gennosuke. He knew that even if Oboro didn't step it, he would have lost to Gennosuke and wonders if he is a man or a monster. He then hears footsteps in the water and wonders who is it. As he fears it may be a Kōga ninja, he eventually jumps and catches the person, revealing to be Akeginu upon hearing her voice. As he steps away from her, he slips on a rock he couldn't see and falls. He feels very pathetic and Akeginu hugs him.
Having slip in the rain and fallen, Hotarubi recalls a time with Yashamaru who informed her that he was chosen to got with Ogen at Sunpu. He told her he will be getting her a souvenir and that there are times he believes the Anti-War Pact isn't something bad as he don't want to see her hands bloodied. Hotarubi gathers her strength and continue.
Meanwhile, Akeginu tells Koshirō they need to return, but separately. As she stands, she drops Gennosuke's flute and tells Koshirō that Gennosuke is ready to part with Iga Tsubagakure and they need to get Oboro severe her longing for Gennosuke. Koshirō wonders if that would be possible, as he believed he had seen all of Oboro face expressions, but her face changes when she sees Gennosuke. Akeginu then leaves Koshirō and returns to Oboro and Tenzen. Oboro wonders what happened to Akeginu as she is wet and asks her to not leave her anymore as she doesn't want to lose anyone else. Hotarubi reaches a cliff with a fallen bridge, but Nenki appears from behind and informs her that he had slain Gennosuke and the rest.
