|My name is Zach Smith Howard. As a civically-engaged resident, I am deeply invested in the future of our community and Franklin Township Schools are at the heart of it. When I first ran in 2018, my spouse was a teacher at Franklin Central High School. I am currently the Assistant Director of State Relations at Indiana University, where I advocate for the university at the Statehouse and serve as the team's K-12, higher education and workforce development policy expert. Prior to my time at IU, I did similar work for the Indiana Commission for Higher Education. My spouse and I plan to start a family and will raise our children here. I am running for re-election because I want to continue to ensure every Franklin Township student graduates prepared to become successfully Enrolled in college, Enlisted in the military or Employed at a livable wage. I want FTCSC to have the best schools possible to prepare our children for one of the 3 "E's."
- Putting students first and preparing them to succeed for a changing world
- Recruiting and retaining quality educators
- Maintaining strong facilities and finances for our school district
I am proud of board’s efforts at transparency, such as livestreaming the board meetings and posting recordings, as well as being able to raise pay for educators & support staff and manage student growth without raising property taxes. If re-elected, my priorities are to make sure students are prepared for life after graduation, as well as continuing to manage student growth and building renovations/additions without raising property taxes.
