|As a Puerto Rican, my personal experiences give me a better perspective on race, racist systems, and oppression. As similar as these experiences are, I do recognize these experiences are not equal, but these give me an understanding of the impact systemic racism has on policymaking. I will use my voice to ensure policies that perpetuate racial inequity in our district are dismantled, making room for new policies that are just and barrier-free.
As a volunteer advocating for vulnerable communities, I have established relationships within the city that have enriched my knowledge on how to improve the lives of the people we serve. As alder, I will take the same collaborative approach and will seek input from the voices and experiences of those who are most impacted by the issues in our district.

Healthy Communities are Safe Communities
- A People’s Budget - Focused on Community Basic Needs
- Cross-Agency Collaboration for the Greater Good
District 10 is impacted deeply by evictions, homelessness and a mental health crisis aggravated by the Covid-19 pandemic. I support continued city relief efforts including rental and child care assistance and maintaining the eviction moratorium. I will work with nonprofit organizations such as the Tenant Resource Center to ensure resources adequately reach the district. We must also invest in our youth and schools, and eliminate the affordability and programming capacity barriers that impede equitable programming access. Budgets reflect cities' values and priorities. My priority is and will continue to be the well-being and health of our community.
COVID-19 has highlighted the need to address other pandemics: mental health and the safety of our community. Residents deserve mental health access provided by mental health professionals. Let's focus on the health of our people and invest in the tools necessary to help them thrive and not just survive. I support programs based on evidence like the Crisis Assistance Helping Out On The Streets (CAHOOTS) program, where mental health professionals act as first responders to attend crisis calls.
