William Butler (1822-1909) was a federal judge on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
He was nominated by President Rutherford B. Hayes on February 12, 1879. He was confirmed by the Senate on February 19, 1879, and received commission that same day. He retired on January 31, 1899.[1] Butler was succeeded in this position by John Bayard McPherson.
