Heading into the election, Ballotpedia rated this race as safely Republican. Incumbent Rick Allen (R) defeated Tricia Carpenter McCracken (D) in the general election on November 8, 2016. Allen defeated Eugene Yu in the Republican primary, while McCracken defeated Joyce Nolin to win the Democratic nomination. The primary elections took place on May 24, 2016.[2][3]
