Timothy Lamar "Tim" Johnson (b. December 2, 1959, in Kosciusko, Miss.) was a Democratic candidate for Mississippi lieutenant governor in the 2015 elections.[1][2]

He lost in the general election on November 3, 2015.[3]

A former Republican Mississippi senator from 1995 to 1993, Johnson switched to the Democratic Party in February 2015 upon announcing his candidacy for lieutenant governor.[2][1]

Biography

A lifelong Mississippi resident, Johnson is a Kosciusko native and graduate of Mississippi State University. He received an undergraduate degree in marketing.

In addition to his time in the state Senate, Johnson's public service career includes one term as an alderman for his hometown of Madison, as well as two terms as Madison County supervisor.[2]

Johnson works as a realtor, insurance agent and Elvis impersonator.[1]

He is a member of the National Rifle Association, the Madison Chamber of Commerce and Toastmasters, among other organizations, and serves on the board of both the Very Special Arts of Mississippi and March of Dimes.[2]

Eleven state executive offices in Mississippi were up for election in 2015. The general election was held on November 3, 2015, following a primary election on August 4, 2015. Runoffs were scheduled for August 25 in case no candidate received a majority (50 percent plus one) of the popular vote in a given primary race.

Johnson defeated Barr in the Democratic primary; he faced incumbent Tate Reeves (R) and challengers Rosa B. Williams (I) and Ron Williams (L) in the general election.[4]
