Campaign themes

2014

Leonard's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[14]

Reforming our Education System

  • Excerpt: "I will work to make higher education more affordable. The cost of college tuition has skyrocketed, and far too many students graduate too deep in student loan debt which has a major impact on their future earnings and lifestyle choices."

Creating Jobs and Supporting the Middle Class

  • Excerpt: "I will strongly support an increase to the minimum wage. I will stand with unions that help protect workers with prevailing wage laws and adequate workplace safety standards, and I will support laws designed to insure equal pay for women."

Protecting our Environment

  • Excerpt: "I support levying an extraction tax on natural gas drilling in the Marcellus Shale. Pennsylvania is the only state that does not have an extraction tax; even states like Oklahoma and Texas have this tax. I will propose that part of those tax revenues be used to fund improvements in our education system."

Safeguarding Health & Reproductive Rights

  • Excerpt: "If elected, I will advocate for the expansion of Medicaid in Pennsylvania, using the money that became available to the state through the federal government with the passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act."
  • Excerpt: "I am proudly pro-choice and believe that a woman's ability to decide when to have a child, and how many children to have, should never be infringed upon."

Restoring our Infrastructure

  • Excerpt: "I strongly support re-investing in our state’s crumbling infrastructure."
