Stephen S. Goss was a judge on the Georgia Court of Appeals from 2018 to 2019. He was appointed to the court by Gov. Nathan Deal (R) in May 2018 to fill a vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Gary Andrews.[1] Goss left office on August 24, 2019, when he died.[2]
Goss was previously a judge of the Dougherty Circuit of Georgia.[3]
Education
Goss received his B.A. and his J.D. from the University of Georgia.[4]
Career
Goss was admitted to the bar in 1986. Prior to joining the Dougherty Superior Court in 1999, he served as the Dougherty County Juvenile Court judge and as president of the Dougherty Circuit Bar Association. In addition to his prior judgeship, Goss also worked in private practice for 13 years.
Goss created the Dougherty Superior Court Mental Health/Substance Abuse program; he also taught at the National Judicial College and the National Drug Court Institute.[5]
2012 election
Goss ran unopposed for re-election to the Dougherty Superior Court.[6] He was re-elected after receiving 99.8% of the vote in the July 31 election.[7]
