The filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was February 25, 2014. Incumbent Verna Jones-Rodwell was defeated by Shirley Nathan-Pulliam in the Democratic primary. Bernie Reiter was unopposed in the Republican primary. Nathan-Pulliam defeated Reiter in the general election.[2][3][4]
