Sara Walter Combs is a judge for Division 1 of the Kentucky Court of Appeals 7th Appellate District. She assumed office in 1994. Her current term ends on January 6, 2031.
Combs ran for re-election for the Division 1 judge of the Kentucky Court of Appeals 7th Appellate District. She won in the general election on November 8, 2022.
Combs served as the court's chief judge from June 2004 to May 2010.[1]
Biography
Education
Combs graduated from the University of Louisville with a bachelor's degree in 1970 and a master's degree in French in 1971. She received her J.D. from the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law in 1979.[1][2]
Career
Combs began her legal career as an associate with the law firm of Wyatt, Tarrant & Combs. She then worked as corporate counsel for an advertising company. She later practiced law with her late husband, Governor Bert T. Combs, and then ran a solo practice. Combs also worked as a regional associate with Mapother & Mapother. In 1993, Governor Brereton Jones appointed her to the Kentucky Supreme Court, but she lost the election for the seat later that year. Combs was the first woman ever to serve on the Supreme Court of Kentucky.[1]
