I grew up in Greenwich and attended the public schools. After getting a degree in economics at Northwestern University, I returned and worked in the renewable energy and agriculture industries. I have volunteered as a tutor in inner city schools for years and delivering meals to seniors. I've written extensively about economic policy for national and local outlets and serve on the Greenwich Representative Town Meeting.

Economic Growth and Fiscal Responsibility

To solve Connecticut's economic and fiscal crisis and create prosperity for all families, we should pursue three major reforms:

1.) Slash income tax rates for all families for the first time in state history

2.) Reduce wasteful spending and reform state employee packages

3.) Cut red tape to alleviate the burden on workers

Educational Excellence

Connecticut should reduce the cost of higher education, raise standards for K-12, and preserve local control of our schools:

1.) Freeze tuition for state universities indefinitely like it has been done successfully in Indiana and Wisconsin

2.) Raise standards for K-12 education across the state and give more choice to poor kids stuck in failing schools

3.) Reduce unfunded mandates that constrict teachers and principals

4.) Stop regionalization and preserve local control no matter what

Fix Transportation

Connecticut must fix its costly, inadequate transportation system without tolls or other new taxes on workers by embracing several reforms:

1.) Liberalize regulations over construction and repairs to reduce costs and improve quality

2.) Prioritize high value investments like Metro-North and I-95 over other low-traffic ventures

3.) Audit the CT Department of Transportation for waste and inefficiencies

The foremost responsibility of elected officials is to protect the rights and safety of the citizenry in the persons and property and do so equally and fairly for all people. When government does that prudently and effectively, it makes it easier for people to prosper and flourish, and for the community to come together.

I worked in shipping at Louis Dreyfus in Connecticut for two years.

The greatest long-term challenge facing Connecticut is obviously the chronic economic and budgetary crisis. Our state is one of only three that never recovered from the 2008 recession before the 2020 downturn began and it has the second highest debt and unfunded liability burden in the nation. We can do better. In order to create long-term prosperity for all we must change three major policies:

1. Reduce income tax rates across the board and simplify the tax code.

2. Reform state employee benefits in order to make them and the state budget sustainable. Also reduce excessive spending and put the state on a "debt diet."

3. Overhaul the regulatory burden by auditing all major regulations and reducing the most costly on workers and job creation.

I am interested in serving on the following committees, among others:

Finance - in order to advance a pro-growth income tax cut for all families in the state and reform the state budget
Health - in order to increase access to health care and also health care jobs in Connecticut by improving state rules and regulations
Energy - in order to help make electricity in our state reliable and affordable and clean

I have long admired my own former state representatives and senator from Greenwich, Stamford, and New Canaan. Scott Frantz, Fred Camillo, and Livvy Floren have always been exemplars of civility, intelligence, and represented our community respectably to the whole state. They also pursued fiscally responsible and prudent policies like good Republicans while trying to bring people together across the aisle.

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Connecticut

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
