Robert Ford resigns from state senate

COLUMBIA, South Carolina: State Senator Robert Ford (D) resigned today, effective immediately.[1]
Ford is under investigation over the possible improper use of campaign funds.[1]
First elected in 1993, Ford represented District 42. He easily won re-election in 2012.
A special election is required to fill the seat. A primary election must be held on the eleventh Tuesday after the vacancy occurs. If necessary, a primary runoff must be held on the thirteenth Tuesday after the vacancy occurs. The special election is held on the eighteenth Tuesday after vacancy occurs. No special election can be held less than 60 days before the general election[2].
