Rachael Eubanks is the Michigan Treasurer. Eubanks assumed office in 2019. Eubanks' current term ends on January 1, 2027.
Eubanks was appointed to the post by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) in December 2018 and assumed office January 2019.[1]
Before serving as treasurer, Eubanks was a member of the Michigan Public Service Commission. She was appointed to the position by Governor Rick Snyder (R) to complete the six-year term of outgoing Commission Chair John Quackenbush. Eubanks assumed office on August 1, 2016.[2] On March 17, 2017, Gov. Snyder appointed Eubanks to a full six-year term.[3] Snyder appointed Eubanks as the independent representative to the three-member PSC board in which no more than two members may be from the same political party.[4]
Biography
Eubanks graduated from the University of Michigan in 2003 with a bachelor's degree in economics. Her professional experience includes working as the director of public finance for Rover W. Baird & Co., in Lansing, Michigan, a firm for which she worked from 2006 to 2016. While at Baird, she completed more than $25 billion in public bond deals, many for the state of Michigan. Before that, she worked for three years in St. Louis, Missouri with the investment and asset management firm A.G. Edwards.[5][6]
Political career
Michigan Treasurer (2019-Present)
Eubanks was appointed Michigan Treasurer on December 21, 2018, by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D).
Michigan Public Service Commission (2016-2019)
On July 6, 2016, Governor Rick Snyder announced that he had appointed Eubanks to fill the vacancy on the Michigan Public Service Commission created by John Quackenbush's resignation. Eubanks was appointed to serve until the end of Quackenbush's term, which expired on July 2, 2017. Her appointment was subject to the advice and consent of the Michigan Senate.[2][7] On March 17, 2017, Snyder appointed Eubanks to a full six-year term, set to expire on July 2, 2023.[3]
About the office
The Michigan Public Service Commission is a three-member body in the Michigan state government responsible for the regulation of energy, telecommunications, and transportation services.[8] The duties of the Public Service Commission include establishing fair and reasonable rates for the state's energy, telecommunications, and transportation services, and the safe and efficient production and distribution of regulated services.
