An effort to recall Peter Courtney, a member of the Democratic Party, from his elected position representing District 11 in the Oregon State Senate was launched on March 14, 2016. Supporters of the recall needed to collect 4,533 valid signatures in 90 days to move the recall forward. Courtney was targeted for recall over his support for raising the minimum wage, phasing out coal power, and for allowing the Oregon Veterans Lottery Bill to be cut.[1] This was the third time that Courtney had been targeted for recall since 1980.[2]
This recall failed after supporters of the recall did not submit any signatures to move the recall forward.

The group Protect the People—Recall Senator Courtney, ran by Matt Geiger, filed a recall petition against Courtney for supporting a minimum wage hike, legislation that would ban the sale of electricity produced by coal, and for allowing the Oregon Veterans Lottery Bill to be cut from 3 percent to 1.5 percent. The measure if approved by voters, would allocate a certain percentage of the Oregon Lottery revenues to veterans' programs.[3]
Sen. Peter Courtney (D) said the following about the recall effort, "My focus continues to be working hard for the people of Senate District 11. That's the job voters in Salem, Gervais and Woodburn elected me to do. That's the job I'm going to do."[4]
