The terms of four Oregon Court of Appeals justices expired on January 4, 2021. In addition, a special election was called for Seat 9, after Jacqueline Kamins was appointed to the office on January 17, 2020.[1] These five seats were up for nonpartisan election on November 3, 2020. A primary was scheduled for May 19, 2020. A full term on the court is six years.
Election procedure changes in 2020

Oregon did not modify any procedures for the November 3, 2020, general election.

All judicial races require a primary election except those to fill a midterm vacancy for a seat that would otherwise have not appeared on the ballot that year. In the case of such a midterm vacancy, the primary may be skipped if only one or two candidates file for that office.

Selection

Judges of the Oregon Court of Appeals, like those of the Oregon Supreme Court and the Oregon Circuit Courts, are chosen in nonpartisan elections to serve six-year terms, after which they must run for re-election if they wish to continue serving.[2]
Qualifications
To serve on the court of appeals, a judge must be:
- a United States citizen;
- a qualified elector of his or her county of residence;
- a member of the Oregon State Bar; and
- under the age of 75.[2][3]
