Nima Kulkarni participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on April 11, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Nima Kulkarni's responses follow below.[2]
What would be your top three priorities, if elected?
“ | 1) Find new revenue sources and progressive tax reform 2) Protect public and human services programs |
” |
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?
“ | I am passionate about protecting and preserving crucial public services for Kentuckians, as these are always the first to be cut in any budget discussion. We must find new sources of revenue instead of simply cutting programs that are vital to our citizens. We must also reduce the rate of felony disenfranchisement and implement sentencing reform so that all our citizens can become engaged members of our community.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[4]
|
” |
Ballotpedia also asked the candidate a series of optional questions. Nima Kulkarni answered the following:
What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
“ | Integrity, Commitment, Dedication, Humility[4] | ” |
“ | I am committed to working with legislators to craft policies that benefit our citizens. I have been an attorney, advocate, and community leader for 10 years, and am dedicated to serving the people of Kentucky and to fight for their rights and values. I know that public office is a public service, not to be undertaken for selfish reasons, and I will work hard every day to move Kentucky forward.[4] | ” |
“ | Finding new sources of revenue, healthcare access, a living wage for all Kentuckians, environmentally sustainable policies, and immigration will continue to be critical issues in the next decade.[4] | ” |
“ | It is crucial to build relationships with other legislators in order to pass legislation that is beneficial to Kentucky. Being able to work with those who may disagree with your views or policies is the job, and the goal must always be in the best interests of our constituents.[4] | ” |
“ | Judiciary, Economic Development, Health & Family Services[4] | ” |
Ballotpedia biographical submission form
The candidate completed Ballotpedia's biographical information submission form:
“ | What is your political philosophy?
I am a strong Democrat, and am running to preserve democratic values for all Kentuckians. At a time when our most cherished ideals and institutions are under unprecedented levels of attack, I am committed to fight for the rights of working families, women, children, our elders, and all disadvantaged and struggling citizens of Kentucky. The policies being implemented in Frankfort do not reflect the best interests of Kentuckians, and I pledge to show up every day to step up for them, support them, and move Kentucky forward. Is there anything you would like to add? I strongly believe that public office is a public service. I will serve the people of the 40th District and Kentucky, and be a committed, informed voice for our community. I have dedicated hundreds of hours to pro bono legal services and community information sessions, and have been recognized for my service work and leadership. I have been named Business First's 40 Under 40, Greater Louisville, Inc. Emerging Leader, World Affairs Council Global Visionary, Presentation Academy Tower Award recipient in Government & Law. I have also appeared numerous times on KET's Kentucky Tonight and One to One. I have built relationships with legislators in Frankfort over the years, and will work with them to get things done for the benefit of all Kentuckians.[4] |

Scorecards
A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.
Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
