Authority

The Election Law Enforcement Commission is an independent agency responsible for the administration and enforcement of New Jersey election law. Candidates and political action committees in New Jersey are required to report finances and expenditures to the commission. The commission is authorized to make the forms for finance reports, prepare reports for public inspection, investigate alleged violations of election law, and enact civil action in court against violators.[1][2][3]

Organization

The commission consists of four members, appointed by the governor with the consent of the state senate. The governor appoints one member to serve as chairperson. Members are appointed to three-year terms. No two members of the commission may be of the same political party. The commission employs an executive director, legal counsel, hearing officers, and other employees as necessary. The tables below provide more information about the members and staff of the commission.[1][3][4]
